Iowa Library Statistics
 

The Iowa Public Library Statistics includes information on income, expenditures, collections, circulation, and other measures. Each section is arranged by size code, then alphabetically by city.

We also include separate reports for library levy rates for cities and counties.

Each report covers one fiscal year.

City Tax Rates and Library Levies

City tax rates and assessed valuation, with the minimum funding amount ($.0675 per thousand) as specified by Iowa Code 8A.222. This is the minimum amount that all cities should pay, not the amount they are paying for FY25

Iowa Public Library Statistics FY21 to FY23 -- Includes information on income, expenditures, collections, circulation, and other measures. Each section is arranged by size code, then alphabetically by city. Each report covers one fiscal year - July 1 through June 30. In PDF format

Web Connect -- This powerful web-based software program offering easy access to and manipulation of Iowa public library statistics.  With Connect you can quickly create rank order tables and colorful graphs and tables. You can also use tools that enable you to organize your results into a report or presentation. Covers 2000-2022.

IMLS Search & Compare Tool -- Use this tool to lookup and compare more than 9,000 public libraries nationwide. You can search for individual libraries, or compare your library to a select group of peers. Covers 2018-2021.

Public Libraries Survey Full Data -- The complete data set from the national Public Libraries Survey - called the annual survey in Iowa. You can access the full survey, data, and documentation for over 9,000 public libraries going back to 1992. 2022 is the most current data available.
