Libraries: Apply Now for $1,000 Grants to Attend ARSL Conference in Sparks, NV this October
Jul 06, 2021
The State Library of Iowa is excited to announce grants for five Iowa libraries to allow a librarian to attend the Association for Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL) Conference in Sparks, Nevada, October 20 - 23, 2021.
The grants will go to the library in the form of a reimbursement of up to $1,000 for conference registration, hotel, and travel costs. The grants will be issued to the library, not the staff person traveling. First time attendees are strongly encouraged to apply!
The purpose of the grants is to help Iowa libraries improve library service to their communities through continuing education and training for library personnel. The ARSL Conference is especially relevant to the majority of Iowa libraries, which serve populations under 2,500.
The library that sends a staff person to attend the conference will need to pay the upfront costs, and the State Library will reimburse up to $1,000 which includes the following items only:
- Registration (scholarship recipients eligible for the Early Bird member rate of $275)
- Hotel (conference rate lodging is $99 + tax for single/double occupancy per night)
- Travel to/from conference (air, train, etc.) and ground transportation to and from the airport/train station to the conference site. Parking at and ground transportation to and from the home airport/train station may also be included. *Note: Due to the travel distance from Iowa to Sparks, Nevada, the State Library will be unable to pay mileage to drive to the conference.
Other incidentals, such as meals, will need to be covered by the library or the employee.
