Position Description: The School of Library and Information Science at the University of Iowa (SLIS) invites applications for an academic-year instructional track faculty at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The position will begin August 20, 2025. 

This is a full-time academic-year (9 month) instructional track faculty position with an initial three-year appointment. Renewal is possible, dependent on recurrent funding and performance. We seek an individual with expertise in public libraries, community engagement, leadership, and management. The successful applicant will be expected to teach three courses during the fall and spring semesters, coordinate practicum experiences for students in the SLIS Program, and serve SLIS in recruiting, advising, and program coordination for the Undergraduate to Graduate students. Salary is highly competitive and commiserate with qualifications and experience.

Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will work with faculty, staff, and students to implement the mission of the University of Iowa and the School of Library and Information Science through the following:

1. Teach and mentor Undergraduate to Graduate and graduate students.
2. Service through participation in department, college, and university committees.
3. Leadership and service in support of the School’s and University’s mission.

Required Qualifications: 
An MLIS from an ALA-accredited program and professional experience in a LIS setting.
Demonstrated teaching experience, preferably at the Master’s level.
Experience or familiarity with online instruction.
Three years of experience in a leadership role, preferably at a public library, museum, or other GLAM organization. A Ph.D. in LIS or related discipline may be substituted.
Capacity to work with students specializing in areas across the LIS disciplines.
Strong record of service to the profession.

Desired Qualifications:
Evidence of excellent teaching skills in online education in higher education. 
Experience with program coordination, recruiting, and advising.
Experience in management, leadership, community engagement, and working in public libraries.
Experience in teaching and mentoring.
Successful experience in grants or external research funding.
