GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under general supervision and according to procedures and policies, may function as professional resource in the development, implementation and delivery of library programs and services in one or more of the following divisions: Programming & Public Services; Collection Services. Specific duties dependent on division assignment (below).
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
The School Liaison Librarian is primarily responsible for the planning and development of high-quality library programming and services to targeted audiences, as well as facilitation of outreach opportunities in Bettendorf and the greater Quad Cities area. Responsibilities include:
• Develops cooperation between daycares, preschools, local school districts, and the public library.
• Develops, plan, and oversee library programming, as assigned.
• Collaborates with the Collections Services Division staff on development and acquisitions of non-traditional collections and online resources.
• Assists the Programming & Public Services Manager with evaluation, selection, and implementation and/or improvement of reference tools, training, and public services.
• Collaborates with Customer Service Division in the development and implementation of patron-led activities and curation of in-house displays.
• Provides patron support during open lab hours and programming in the library’s makerspace.
• Limited collection development activities, as assigned.
• Provides public reference service, receiving, researching and answering questions and requests.
• Provides public service in reader’s advisory, assisting users in identifying and obtaining resources and information.
• Educates staff and public in the use of basic reference tools and electronic resources.
• Provides excellent customer service at library service desks and through outreach efforts.
• Assists in marketing and promotion of library services, resources, and programs through outreach, library marketing outlets, etc., as assigned.
• Actively participates on local, regional, consortia, and in-house committees and/or organizations that further the library’s mission, vision, and values.
• Other related job duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
EDUCATION: Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies (MLIS, MLS, or equivalent) from an ALA accredited institution is required.
EXPERIENCE: Preferred two to four years progressively responsible professional library related work experience in a public, school, or academic library environment. Solid knowledge, training, and/or experience in materials selection and maintenance, public programming, and reference/readers’ advisory services.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Requires excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with fellow co-workers, vendors, residents, professional colleagues, and the public. Requires contact with a wide range of publics; required to represent Library and City in a professional and positive manner.
ANALYTICAL ABILITIES: Requires the analytical and organizational abilities necessary to effectively take direction and prioritize work assignments; assess, measure, and report on library processes and services; assist library users with questions and requests for information; solve basic operational issues and suggest solutions and refinement.
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and common office computer technologies is required. Experience with public access computer reservation management software, payment management software, and integrated library system software is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Requires work to be performed within a normal office environment and outside the library in a variety of outreach settings. Requires continuous standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing and lifting and pushing of books and other library materials ranging from under one pound to over twenty pounds. *Requires valid driver’s license and ability to drive an automobile.
