About the Toolkit

The Public Library Compensation Toolkit was developed to help address inequities in library director and staff compensation when compared to other local government employees who do comparable work. The Toolkit provides library boards, directors and staff the tools needed to address these inequities and request fair and competitive compensation.

The main Toolkit document contains an overview on how to request fair compensation and communicate the results of the Job Analysis Questionnaire and Job Description, including resources for compensation information.

Supporting Documents

The toolkit includes the following supporting documents: A Job Analysis Questionnaire, A Sample Library Director Job Description, and a Fillable Job Description Template. Download them at the links below.

The Job Analysis Questionnaire is designed to help directors and library boards understand the value a position provides to the local government and establish a basis for determining the fair market value of a position. It serves as a guide for understanding a job and its key duties and responsibilities. Downloadable as a fillable Word Doc.

The Job Description tools help directors and library boards to create or update an effective job description. Job descriptions play a critical role in communicating the value of a position. Access a job description example and fillable Word template.
