The State Library divides Iowa into six districts in order to provide localized support to libraries. The district consultants meet regularly with new and established directors, facilitate county meetings, offer regular continuing education programs for directors, staff, and boards. Library Resource Technicians (LRTs) provide each district's librarians with technical support and assistance for resources offered by the State Library.

The Central District Consultant position is currently vacant. In the interim, the five other District Consultants as well as State Library administrative office staff will cover the district to respond to questions and make virtual and in-person library visits.
