Learning Circuit
With the CE Team in transition during 2026, preparing a traditional Learning Circuit at six in-person locations across Iowa this fall was going to be a lot to take on. State Library administration made the decision to pivot to a statewide virtual learning opportunity.
We are pleased to announce two special grant writing workshops this fall! Details and links to register are below. The Learning Circuit will return in 2027!
Grant Writing Basics with Guided Project Planning

- This entry-level webinar will guide you through a step-by-step process, ensuring an easy-to-follow approach to grant work and how to identify the next practical steps. You'll gain an understanding of the crucial factors to consider when working on library grant work, discover what funders look for in successful proposals, and gain the skills to bring clarity and professionalism to your proposals. Participants will be empowered to identify the five-step process of grant work, explore various funding sources, initiate successful proposals, and approach grant work with enthusiasm and confidence.
Strengthening Your Grant Proposal

- This advanced workshop builds on the foundation presented in "Grant Writing Basics", so make plans to attend that session live (on 10/22), or catch the recording to come to this workshop designed to help you level-up your grant proposals. The advanced session will address:
- Writing a compelling need statement
- Developing measurable outcomes
- Using AI responsibly for proposal review and refinement

About the Presenter
Stephanie Gerding, MLIS, is an educator, consultant, and author with more than 20 years of experience as a library grant writer, reviewer, funder, evaluator, and project manager. She provides practical grant webinars, workshops, and training for libraries and library organizations across the country. In 2026, Stephanie provided grant training at five IMLS regional convenings for rural and small-library professionals. Stephanie is passionate about helping library staff build confidence and achieve success in grant work.
About the Learning Circuit
Typically held annually in the fall, the Learning Circuit has been a staple of the State Library Continuing Education calendar for many years. The goal of the Circuit is to offer in-depth educational opportunities from trainers representing national initiatives, innovative programs, trends in library services and more.
The event features a hybrid format, combining Zoomed-in national experts with hands-on learning activities, led by each district's consultant.
