NATURE OF WORK:
The Library Page performs library work at the clerical level under their specified supervisor. The library page is concerned with specific tasks and responsibilities related to maintaining the library’s collections. The library page refers patron requests to the appropriate service desk.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Sorts and arranges materials to be re-shelved in the library’s collection.
• Shelves library materials correctly and, when necessary, shifts materials on the shelves to make room for items waiting to be shelved.
• Notes any problems related to shelving, items needing repair, etc. and reports this information to the supervisor.
• Assists library staff in weeding and inventory procedures.
• Refers patron information requests to other staff members.
• May perform clerical tasks such as typing, computer data input, maintaining files, checking in mail, etc.
• Shelf reads the library collection on a regular basis to ensure the accuracy of the shelved items and searches for missing items when requested.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
Experience/Education: Must have a student work permit if required.
• Ability to proofread and file according to alphabetical and numerical systems in order to organize and shelve library materials correctly throughout the library.
• Ability to work in a pleasant and effective manner with customers and co-workers.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
• Experience with software such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and Windows.
• Ability to use independent judgment to make decisions.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and regularly take personal initiative to execute work responsibilities. 
• Must be able to work nights and weekends; and flexible enough to switch when necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to manipulate, handle or operate tools, controls or objects, and to reach overhead with hands and arms. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various office equipment. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; squat, kneel, or crawl.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects an average of 20 pounds, move wheeled carts containing objects totaling up to an average of 60 to 80 pounds, or shift and move furniture and other related library materials. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

14 and 15 year olds may not work before 7 am, nor after 9 pm, except June 1 through Labor Day, when their permissible hours are extended to 11 pm. The following restrictions also apply:
• Per the Department of Labor Child Labor rules, they cannot work,
o More than 6 hours a day on school days, including Fridays
o More than 28 hours per week in school weeks
o More than 8 hours a day on non-school days
o More than 40 hours per week when school is not in session
