Carter Lake Public Library seeks candidates for the position of Library Director. Under the supervision of a seven-member Board of Trustees, the Library Director oversees all aspects of the library's day-to-day operations, including financial, facility, and personnel management. The Library Director plans policies, collections, programs, procedures, and budgets, manages personnel, and represents the library within the community.
Primary Responsibilities:
Manage the day-to-day operations of the library
Evaluate and plan for future needs in keeping with the library’s mission statement, policies, and strategic plan
Attend workshops, conferences, and local, regional, and state meetings; report on library activities and represent the library; create and implement workshops for the public and staff; take appropriate courses; keep abreast of developments in the library profession.
Prepares the meeting materials and participates in the monthly Board of Trustees meeting
Hire, train, evaluate, and develop staff. Teach and model excellent customer service practices. Prepare and present the annual City budget
Prepare all bills for payment
Manage revenue (fines, fees, donations, grants, etc.) and seek/secure contributions from outside sources to enhance services and collections
Maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Trustees, city officials, and staff
Positively represent the library to patrons, the community, businesses, and professional groups
Prepare and maintain required reports and statistics
Coordinate and supervise facility equipment and negotiate maintenance contracts with contractors and vendors
Oversee computer systems, assess library technology, and plan for future technology needs of the library
Oversee media, social media, and publicity for the library
Plans and oversees community outreach initiatives that build strategic partnerships, expand access to library services, and strengthen community engagement.
Develops and manages special events, including family-focused and educational programs, that promote lifelong learning and position the library as a welcoming community gathering space

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Library Science or an equivalent degree
State Library of Iowa Public Library Certification
Master’s Degree (preferred)
Experience:
2 - 3 years of library experience
Supervisory experience
