The State Library has recently been approved by the Iowa Public Information Board (IPIB) to provide self-paced training in Workday Learning on Iowa Code Chapters 21 & 22. The training is in compliance with Iowa Code 21.12, which requires all board members appointed after July 1, 2025 to complete training on Iowa’s open meetings and open records laws.

The State Library's course, titled Open Meetings, Open Records: Compliance is the Law provides an overview of the legal requirements and best practices. The session covers such topics as compliance with posting of meetings, public comment, requests for records, how and when library boards can go into closed sessions, and avoiding legal pitfalls.

The course is geared towards library trustees and must be completed individually in order to have the required certificate issued, which shall be maintained by the board’s governing body.
