Job Description: Library Director

Employer: Board of Trustees, Sanborn Public Library

Qualifications: The Sanborn Public Library Board will hire those individuals who are deemed to be most capable of performing the duties for which they are employed, and who are known to be of good character.

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Library Director are as follows:

Regarding Relationship to Board of Trustees, the Library Community and the Public

· Attend all regular and special meetings of the Board.

· Attend meetings of Board committees as requested.

· Attend regional and statewide meetings and workshops.

· Make reports to the State and Regional libraries.

· Provide written reports of library activities to the Board.

· Communicate library activities, programs, etc. with library patrons and the public as needed.

· Communicate needs for equipment, policy changes, new programs, or changes in procedures to the Board.

· Assist with the development of meeting agendas.

Regarding Staff

· Supervise all other library employees.

· Recommend hiring.

· Devise work schedules.

· Approve leaves and vacation requests.

· Conduct staff meetings as needed.

· Conduct performance reviews.

· Maintain personnel files.

Regarding Fiduciary Matters

· Assist with the development of the library budget.

· Monitor all expenses and stay within the budget.

· Make recommendations to the Board about spending needs.

· Help develop long-term capital plans.

· Maintain all necessary financial records.

· Track petty cash, fines, copier, laminating, DVD cleaner and fax revenue.

Regarding Library Operations (duties may be delegated)

· Receive and open mail and freight.

· Perform Interlibrary Loan activities and related record keeping and reporting.

· Order materials according to the Board’s Material Acquisition Policy.

· Verify receipt of all materials.

· Verify the correct pricing and billing of all materials.

· Process all materials including bar coding.

· Maintain the on-line catalog database.

· Responsible to monitor regular computer catalog, patron, and circulation records through our database host.

· Close the library in case of inclement weather and contact the appropriate radio stations so that public service announcements related to the closing can be made.

· Supervise use of all public-access equipment.

Other

· Perform all duties related to the Librarian position held. (Children’s Librarian)

· Continue education and professional development by attending appropriate workshops and schools.

Job Description: Children’s Librarian

Employer: Board of Trustees, Sanborn Public Library

Qualifications: The Sanborn Public Library Board will hire those individuals who are deemed to be most capable of performing the duties for which they are employed, and who are known to be of good character.

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Children’s Librarian are as follows:

· Assist persons with identifying materials for casual reading, identifying various resources for genealogical studies, and any other information requested, within reasonable limitations and according to Board policy.

· Circulate materials (check out and check in books, magazines, etc.) and maintain records of the same, as well as maintain patron traffic records.

· Utilize computer application software including the circulation/catalog system, Microsoft word, Bridges Digital Library Website, Facebook, maintain a library website, and other software.

· Collect fines for overdue material, and reimbursements for lost items.

Under the direction of the library director:

· Order and process materials including all necessary tracking and record keeping.

· Maintain on-line catalog database.

· Report statistical information.

· Make Inter-Library Loan (ILL) requests and fill ILL requests, and perform necessary record keeping of the same.

· Attend meetings and workshops.

· Use all library equipment.

· Assist the Adults’ Librarian with any type of programmed activities.

· Plan, coordinate, and deliver Story Hour and any other programmed activities.

· Supervise use of all public access equipment.

· Assist with public communications.

· Prepare bulletin boards and related children’s library decoration (posters, etc.)
