Job Summary: Plans, implements and evaluates library services and programming for adults including selecting and maintaining library collections and providing reference and reader’s advisory assistance.

Areas of Focus:
Reader's Advisory:
Be our go-to book person! Help readers discover books they'll love and create approachable ways to introduce patrons to new authors, genres, and titles.
Collection Development:
Select and manage Adult Fiction and Large Print collections - responding to what our community wants to read.
Adult Programming:
Plan engaging programs for adults, including book discussions, life long learning programs, creative events, as well as programming in our MakeIT Place. Bring us your ideas!
Community Connections:
Build relationships with local organizations, reach readers beyond the library walls, and help showcase community art and collections.

Qualifications: An MLS/MLIS is preferred but not required. We're interested in candidates with a combination of education, experience, skills, and enthusiasm that prepares them to succeed in the position. Ability to get Public Library Staff Certification from the State Library of Iowa within one year of hire date is required.
Hours & Starting pay: 36 hrs/wk, $21.56-$25.33 per hour, depending on education and experience
Benefits: City of Washington standard benefits including health insurance and IPERS
Schedule: Rotating Saturdays and one evening/week
About our Library:
We love our 30,000-square-foot facility located on the city's town square — Tied for the largest Size E library in Iowa and a major cultural anchor for downtown Washington.
We offer a variety of programs and services for all ages: concerts, art galleries, public meeting spaces, Wi-Fi, an extensive genealogy and local history collection and our new PlayIT Place-- an enclosed playspace for families with children aged 0-5.
In addition, our MakeIT Place opened just 2 years ago: A 2,500-square-foot creative space with 3D printers, laser engraving, graphic design resources, pottery studio, a memory lab, a recording studio, STEAM lab and more.
