This position provides excellent customer service and advanced information assistance to the public, helps create a welcoming library environment, assesses and meets the needs of patrons and the community, selects and evaluates materials for specific subject areas, acts as person in charge of building as needed, and performs various other duties as assigned.

This position may require scheduling at any library facility as well as off-site locations during days, nights, and weekends.

We offer a comprehensive benefit package. The cost for a family plan for medical, dental, vision and prescription is only $98.61 per month for 2025 and starts on first day of employment. 

Starting Pay: $28.70/hr After 6 Months: $29.41/hr

Examples Of Duties
Creates a welcoming environment by providing excellent customer service and maintaining the appearance of public areas.
Demonstrates commitment to The Library’s mission and vision by actively promoting services and resources.
Communicates effectively with colleagues, patrons, stakeholders, and the community by responding to queries in a timely manner.
Prepares and implements library programming for all ages and diverse backgrounds based on the needs of the community.
Develops partnerships and relationships with City departments and other organizations.
Assists with outreach in the community.
Assists patrons with technology and self-service options, including computers and printers.
Assists patrons in placing holds and retrieving materials.
Assists with patron accounts and provides access to library materials.
Evaluates patron needs and develops tools and services to meet those needs.
Provides reference services and uses library and internet resources to answer patrons’ information requests.
Works collaboratively with marketing for programming efforts.
Serves as a selector of library materials to develop and maintain specified areas of the collection.
Creates displays of library materials that align with programming and community interests.
Performs readers’ advisory services.
Meet patrons at their point of need by working a service point and routinely roving public areas.
Manages makerspace usage and provides programming and training to the community.

Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited college or university, professional experience in the areas of information services and materials selection and knowledge of public libraries preferred. Certification with the State Library of Iowa required upon employment and retained throughout employment.
