The Trustee’s Handbook defines five primary roles for library boards. How well is your board carrying out each of those duties? This session of the Boardroom Series will provide you tools to evaluate your level of success with each of the following:

Hiring and evaluating the library director

Approving and monitoring the budget

Developing and adopting policies

Planning for the library’s future

Evaluating service and advocating for advancement

While the director oversees the day-to-day operations of the library, each of these roles is key to your library’s success and the board is chiefly responsible for carrying them out. We’ll share our ideas for self-reflection and give participants a chance to share their own evaluation success stories.

About the Boardroom Series: In these sessions, we aim to inform and encourage Iowa library trustees. We present best practices and current trends in library board service. Participation in these webinars helps satisfy Standard #8: “All members of the library board of trustees participate in a variety of board development training each year.”
