The Stanhope Public Library has an opening for a part-time Library Assistant, between 3 and 20 hours per week. This position performs under the general supervision of the library director to operate and maintain the public library. This is a year-round position and will include evening and weekend hours. A person with a flexible schedule and the ability to work days, evenings, and weekends is preferred. Duties may include: working at the circulation desk, providing customer service, shelving materials, and assisting with library programs and special projects, assisting with the maintenance of the library website and social media accounts. Assists with the day-to-day operation of the library. Assists with programming events and activities. Assists with maintaining the library web-page and social media posts. Part-time (approximately 3-20 hours per week) with regular evening and weekend hours.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Customer service: provide information and assistance to library patrons, including assisting with materials selection, computers, circulation, reference questions, shelving and maintaining the collection, and interlibrary loan.
Programming: assist with planning and execution of library programs.
Technology: assist patrons with the use of library technology, including computers, gaming systems, and tablets.
Library web page and social media: assist with the maintenance and publishing of materials on the library web page and library social media platforms.
Opening and closing the library: adhering to the library schedule will perform opening and closing duties as scheduled.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A person with a flexible schedule and the ability to work days, evenings, and weekends is preferred.
Ability to demonstrate effective public service skills, understand public library operations, and support “patron first” practices.
Ability to interact effectively, professionally, and tactfully with general patrons.
Ability to solve problems, maintain confidentiality
Ability to perform a variety of duties without direct supervision
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Experience working with children is a plus
